Denver Broncos: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Bears

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Paxton Lynch, Quarterback

So far, the first round pick the Broncos used on Paxton Lynch a couple of years ago has proven to be futile. With Case Keenum being signed to become the starting quarterback, the Broncos will need to decide who will be holding the clipboard behind him. According to USA Today, Lynch was demoted to third string QB this week. That could be subject to change depending on how Chad Kelly performs (talked about him earlier) the rest of the preseason.

Lynch didn’t have much playing time in the first preseason game, completing just six passes for 24 yards. The former first round pick will need all the opportunities available to secure the job this season as the number two QB. Everyone knew Lynch was going to be a project coming out of college. Lynch has a big arm but has had his struggles reading defenses and with his accuracy.

If Lynch is going to be the number two guy, he’ll have to leave an imprint this week against the Bears in the second week of preseason action. We should start to get a clearer view of who the guy will be in a couple of weeks. If Kelly performs like he did last week consistently this preseason, Lynch could see his chance of staying with the Broncos slowly fade away.
