Case Keenum Has Been Here Before

Case Keenum isn’t an elite quarterback by any stretch, but he is solid field general who knows how to get the job done. The Broncos likely wouldn’t have signed him in the offseason if not for the job he did for the Minnesota Vikings last year.

Despite opening the 2017 season as the Vikings’ backup, an injury opened the door for Keenum to start. Not only did Minnesota survive with Keenum under center, but it thrived.

The Vikings went on to finish 13-3 and capture the NFC North crown before winning their first playoff game since 2009. And Keenum was right at the forefront of their success, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,547 yards. He also passed for 22 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.

Keenum hasn’t replicated those numbers this year, already throwing nine interceptions. But he has done enough to keep Denver in most of its games. In addition, he’s also enough of a running threat to keep defenses honest.

After cycling through three different starting quarterbacks last year, the Broncos finally seem to have their guy. And he’s one who has been in this situation before.
