Jarrett Stidham ended last season as the Denver Broncos‘ starting quarterback, but Bo Nix appears ready to come in and take the job heading into 2024.

The Broncos selected Nix with the 12th overall pick of the NFL Draft last month, signaling to Stidham that he will be going back to the bench.

However, Stidham is not just going to roll over, and he sent a rather stern message to Nix when asked about the situation at organized team activities.

“This is a business. I understand how this thing goes. But it’s been fun to compete, and that’s what we’re going to do,” Stidham said, via the Broncos’ official YouTube account. “Like I said, I mean I’ve dealt with this before when I was in New England when we drafted Mac Jones. It’s a business totally understand it. But at the same time, I’m here to compete. I’m not just going to sit down and let somebody else walk on in here and – I mean, I’m going to compete my butt off to get the job. So, super excited about it.”

Stidham may actually stand a decent chance of opening the 2024 campaign as the starter.

While Denver surely views Nix as its quarterback of the future, it also does not want the mistake of rushing him and potentially damaging him in his rookie season. If the Broncos feel that Nix isn’t ready or that the situation isn’t exactly conducive to him, they may go with Stidham to start things off.

In three appearances and two starts last year, Stidham threw for 496 yards, a couple of touchdowns and an an interception while completing 60.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.7.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Some actually felt he would be Tom Brady’s successor in New England, but he evidently never showed enough to make the Pats comfortable with turning the reins over to him.

Stidham spent two seasons with the Patriots and then one with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Broncos last March.

In 16 games and four starts over the course of his NFL career, Stidham has totaled eight touchdowns and eight picks while completing 59.4 percent of his throws.

We’ll see if Jarrett Stidham is able to give Bo Nix a run for his money in training camp.
