The Detroit Lions could use another pass rusher alongside of Aidan Hutchinson, and Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team sees the perfect solution: Philadelphia Eagles star Haason Reddick.
The Eagles were rumored to be shopping Reddick earlier this offseason, and their free-agent signing of edge rusher Bryce Huff has only added fuel to that fire.
Reddick is entering the final year of his deal, and after Philadelphia’s acquisition of Huff, it seems hard to imagine the team re-signing him next offseason.
That means Reddick likely remains a solid trade candidate in the coming weeks, and with the NFL Draft approaching at the end of next month, now may represent a better time than ever to move him.
Valentino suggests that the Lions send the Eagles a second-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder in exchange for Reddick. He adds that Philadelphia may even ask for the 29th overall selection from Detroit.
Reddick is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game and registered 38 tackles and 11 sacks en route to his second straight Pro Bowl appearance.
The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Temple, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 13th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Reddick’s first three seasons were very disappointing, but in his fourth year, he broke out, rattling off 63 tackles, 12.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.
That ensuing offseason, Reddick signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, and in his lone season with the club, he impressed, totaling 68 tackles and 11 sacks.
He then proceeded to join the Eagles, where he posted the best campaign of his career in 2022 by racking up 49 tackles, 16 sacks, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
There is no doubt that Reddick is a premier pass rusher, and with the Lions needing some help on the defensive side of the ball, he would unquestionably be a great get for them.
