Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and it looks like the Lions are getting out ahead of it.

According to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press, Detroit will meet with Brown’s representatives at the Scouting Combine to discuss a new deal.

Birkett qualified his report by stating that no agreement is imminent.

St. Brown is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and hauled in 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at USC, was selected by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie year, appearing in every contest and catching 90 passes for 912 yards and five scores. He then showed significant improvement during his sophomore season, snaring 106 balls for 1,161 yards while reaching the end zone six times in 16 games.

St. Brown played a pivotal role in the Lions having one of their best seasons in franchise history this past year, as the club won a division title for the first time in 30 years and won its first playoff game since January 1992. Detroit made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game before blowing a 24-7 lead to the San Francisco 49ers.

During the Lions’ playoff run, St. Brown logged 22 catches for 274 yards and a touchdown.

Considering that Detroit has hardly experienced any sort of success over the last several decades, it’s no surprise that the franchise is moving quickly to try to lock up its top offensive weapon.

We’ll see if the Lions can strike a pact with Amon-Ra St. Brown before 2024.
