Lions Trade For Giants’ Defensive Back In Bold Scenario

The New York Giants are 1-5 and are going nowhere fast this season, so they could very well move some pieces ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline. One name who could be on the trade block is cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. If they do move him, the Detroit Lions might be a potential trade suitor.

Jackson is in the third and final year of his contract with the Giants and is slated to hit free agency this spring. Chances are, New York will not be re-signing him, so it may want to move him now in order to recoup some value before he walks for nothing in the spring.

Cory Woodroof of USA Today thinks the Lions would represent an ideal landing spot for Jackson.

Woodroof cites that the Lions will be without cornerback Emmanuel Moseley for the remainder of the season after he tore his ACL for the second straight year earlier this month, so the need for Jackson is certainly there.

While Detroit ranks seventh in the NFL in defense overall, it is a below average 18th in pass defense, so it could absolutely use some assistance in its secondary.

Jackson is not an elite defensive back, but he is a solid corner who gets the job done.

Through six games this season, the 28-year-old has logged 23 tackles and a couple of passes defended.

Jackson, who played his collegiate football at USC, was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 18th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Titans, posting decent results before linking up with the Giants in 2021.

The main issue for Jackson is health, as he has not played a full campaign since 2018 and has maxed out at 13 games in a single season since then.

Still, the Lions could definitely afford to send a 2024 third-round draft pick New York’s way in order to secure Jackson. Detroit is 5-1, and given how desperate the franchise is for a modicum of success, when the opportunity presents itself, the front office has to capitalize.
