Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has spent the first four weeks of 2023 on the PUP list due to an ankle injury he suffered during the second half of last season.
Taylor underwent surgery to repair the issue last January and is eligible to return to the field this week when the Colts take on the Tennessee Titans.
Everyone is operating under the assumption that Taylor will be back to normal as soon as he gets back on the gridiron, and he said as much on Thursday, telling the media that “it feels really good to be healthy.”
However, sports medicine physician Jesse Morse thinks something is up.
We were told that the procedure Taylor had last winter was merely a scope, but Morse finds it odd that it took Taylor 10 months to recover if that were the case.
Morse speculates that Taylor may have had his deltoid ligament repaired, because if it were as simple as the Colts said, the star halfback would have been healthy by April.
It’s an interesting theory, and we’ll definitely find out just how healthy Taylor is when we see him taking some snaps on Sunday.
The Taylor saga has certainly been an interesting one over the last several months, as he asked for a trade from Indianapolis after the club refused to give him a new contract. The Colts gave him permission to seek a trade and talked to several other teams about Taylor, but due to Indy’s high asking price, discussions never went very far.
Jonathan Taylor will be a free agent at the end of the season. Indianapolis has until the Oct. 31 trade deadline to move him.
The 24-year-old is now in his fourth NFL season. He led the NFL in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18) back in 2021.
The Colts are 2-2 through their first four games.
