Dolphins: 3 potential running back options for Miami in free agency

Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

1. Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers

Finally, the Dolphins could look at bringing in a star. Melvin Gordon was considered to be one of the top running backs in the NFL just last season, but this year was a completely different story.

Gordon carried his holdout into the regular season after the Chargers were unwilling to give him a contract extension. He did end up returning, but he was rusty and it showed in a big way. Due to the rust, Gordon ended up totaling just 612 yards and eight touchdowns on 162 carries.

Miami shouldn’t let his production in 2019 scare them away. With a full offseason of work and a long-term contract under his belt, Gordon will return to being one of the biggest threats at the running back position in the NFL.
