Big Plays
It was a total team effort today for the Miami Dolphins. Each unit contributed at least one big play that contributed to a Dolphins victory. For long-suffering fans of the teaam, it was a welcomed relief from what we’re used to. It’s not every game you get big plays from your offense, defense, and special teams, but that’s exactly what we saw today. And each one of those plays was critical in Miami escaping with a win under extraordinary circumstances.
I would like to be able to say that today the offense looked like it didn’t skip a beat in Tannehill’s return. I would love to be able to rave about how fluid the offense looked and how they were driving the ball up and down the field. I’d love to be able to call this team an offensive juggernaut.
We saw glimpses of that potential today, but that’s still a long way away. It was rough at times, but there were bright spots. Particularly bright was the deep bomb from Tannehill to perennial deep-threat Kenny Stills to give the Dolphins some breathing room. Tannehill and Stills had good chemistry in 2016, and hopefully that play was a sign of things to come.
Stills and Tannehill weren’t alone in the big play department for the Dolphins, either. Far from it, in fact. Reshad Jones kept the Dolphins in the game when the offense was sputtering with not one, but two big interceptions, further cementing himself as one of the best safteys in this league.
In perhaps the most exciting play of the game, the smallest guy on the field contributed in a monster way, as Jakeem Grant took a kickoff 102 yards for a critical touchdown. Without these plays, this game is ugly and probably not a Dolphins victory.
