Dolphins favored to end up landing free agent QB Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston is still available this offseason after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to replace him with Tom Brady. Very few teams have been rumored to have interest in signing him thus far. However, the Miami Dolphins could be a team to keep an eye on.

SportsLine released their new odds on where Winston will be to start the 2020 NFL season. At this point in time, they have the Dolphins favored to end up landing the free agent quarterback.

Miami would make sense as a potential landing spot for Winston if the price is right. Rumors were stating that he wanted $30 million per year. That simply is not going to happen from any team in the NFL.

If the price drops to a reasonable amount, the Dolphins could pick Winston up. They are likely to take a quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Two names that have been connected to them the most have been Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

Winston is only 26 years old, which makes this option intriguing. He has showed off huge production, but also threw 30 interceptions last season with the Buccaneers. There were also nine dropped interceptions from opposing defenses, which would have taken his total to close to 40 picks.

In addition to his rough interception numbers, Winston racked up 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns. There is enough raw talent to make a team like the Dolphins interested.

The team could bring in Winston to start for a year or two while they develop their rookie quarterback. Or, the Dolphins could have Winston and the rookie compete openly in training camp and the preseason.

Expect to hear more news about Winston in the near future. Miami may not end up pursuing him, but the pairing could make sense if his price drops dramatically.
