Cornerback Ronald Darby for a future pick
If you were to go position by position through the Eagles roster, the cornerback position would be amongst their weakest. So, the first mention of trading Ronald Darby doesn’t seem that wise. Not to mention, the Eagles lost slot cornerback Patrick Robinson, who left to sign with the New Orleans Saints in free agency.
Last season, when the Eagles acquired Darby from the Buffalo Bills, they gave up a third-round pick as a part of the deal. If Philadelphia was to trade Darby this season, they could at least get a third-round pick in a deal. Darby could possibly attract more value since he was a starting cornerback for the Super Bowl champions.
Darby did only play eight regular-season games, but he had a career-high three interceptions last season. Philadelphia can afford to do this trade because it has two young cornerbacks on the rise in Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones.
Jones was the Eagles second-round pick in 2017 and played very little last year due to an Achilles injury. When drafted, Jones was projected as a starting No. 1 cornerbacks in the NFL. Mills has constantly progressed each of his first two seasons with the Eagles. Also, Mills provides the same versatility of being able to play in the slot that both Robinson and Darby played.
The possibility of getting more in return for Darby than what Philadelphia had to give up for him is intriguing. Moreover, the ability to trade a player like Darby shows the luxury the Eagles’ front office has with this current roster.
