One of the biggest trades this offseason in the NFL came during the 2022 draft when the Philadelphia Eagles completed a deal with the Tennessee Titans. Philadelphia acquired AJ Brown in exchange for a first-round pick, which was used on his direct replacement, Treylon Burks, and a third-round pick.
While Burks has shown some flashes of becoming a go-to receiver, Brown has already reached that point. The Eagles were hoping that his addition would help take their passing offense to another level and that is exactly what has happened.
Brown quickly turned into the No. 1 option for Jalen Hurts, giving him a strong trio to get the ball to alongside 2021 first-round pick DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. On Sunday, Brown got to face off with his former team, so you know emotions were running high.
Normally players won’t admit that a game means more than the others, remaining professional and saying that it is just another game that they will go out there and try to win. But, Brown couldn’t hide his emotions in this one, saying this was a game that he has been looking forward to.
“I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t circle this game.”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Brown has been awaiting this game against his former team. In his first matchup against them since the trade, he did not disappoint. Not only did the Eagles win handily, defeating the Titans 35-10, but Brown also had a big game.
The Ole Miss product caught eight passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, regularly torching his former team. He continually made big plays throughout the afternoon, as his second touchdown grab was a truly impressive snag against tight coverage.
According to NFL’s Next Gen Stats, that is the fifth tight window touchdown reception of the season for Brown, which is two more than any other player has. That second touchdown reception had a 21.7 percent chance of being completed, but AJ Brown was making every play against some of his former teammates en route to a monster Week 13 performance.
