The Philadelphia Eagles may need to look for some help at running back following the injury suffered by current starter Miles Sanders. If they are indeed in the market for some running back help, Marshawn Lynch could be a name to keep a close eye on.
Mike Greger of Heavy mentioned that Lynch could be an option for the Seahawks. With Sanders missing some time, Lynch could come in and provide a lift for the Eagles immediately.
By all accounts, the former Seahawks stud is living his best post-football life eating Skittles and playing video games. Lynch wouldn’t want to come back and join an Eagles team in danger of missing the playoffs, would he? Probably not. But the 34-year-old did have discussions to return to Seattle back in May and reportedly never filed his retirement papers. Remember, the man known as “Beast Mode” provided some pretty hard yards in very limited touches in 2019.
Lynch came out of “retirement” last season to help the Seahawks late in the year. After both Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny went down with injuries, Lynch was a key piece for the offense and helped carry them to the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs. He could do the same for the Eagles.
In the one regular season game he played with the Seahawks, Lynch carried the ball 12 times for 34 yards and a touchdown. He racked up 18 carries for 33 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs. While the Eagles may not turn to Lynch, he could make sense.
As the article above mentioned, Lynch would not be joining a team ready to make a Super Bowl run. That could hurt the Eagles if they actually do want to sign him.
However, a chance to come in midway through the season and receive carries would be of interest. Lynch loves football and the Eagles can give him a great opportunity to get back into the game for another year.
Other potential options for the Eagles could be a trade for LeSean McCoy or Gus Edwards, or they could even look to sign Spencer Ware or Isaiah Crowell. Either way, the Eagles could use some help.
Expect to hear some rumors come out of Philadelphia about finding some help in the running game. Marshawn Lynch may not be pursued, but it is intriguing to think about.
