Despite losing so many key pieces this offseason, in the coaching staff and player personnel, the Philadelphia Eagles once again look like contenders. After losing in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35, they will be looking to climb all the way to the mountain top this season.
The talent is certainly there as the Eagles are loaded on both sides of the ball. After running roughshod through the NFC last season, going 14-3 in the regular season with two blowout wins to win the conference, they will look to repeat that in 2023.
While this roster is very strong, if the chance to upgrade their roster presents itself, Howie Roseman will jump at that chance. There aren’t any glaring holes currently, but even upgrades on the margins could be the difference between winning a championship and not.
Los Angeles Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald would certainly be more than an upgrade on the margins. He is arguably the best defensive player in the NFL right now and one of the most dominant in the history of the league.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently linked the Eagles as a potential suitor for Donald in a trade. With 2023 shaping up to be a reset year for the Rams, trading Donald would officially put them on track to rebuild, something they are likely due for.
What could a trade between the Eagles and Rams look like? Kay suggested Philadelphia send a 2024 first and second-round pick to Los Angeles in exchange for Donald. That kind of draft capital would be excellent for the Rams to restock their roster with and improve their outlook for the future.
For Philadelphia, it would help bolster what is an already strong defense. Donald could step right into the lineup in place of Jaron Hargrave, who departed in free agency, signing a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
While the Eagles do have high hopes for 2022 first-round pick Jordan Davis in an expanded role, he isn’t close to the player that Donald is right now. A defense that racked up 70 sacks last season would become even more dangerous with Donald in the middle of it.
