Todd Gurley is coming off of a roller coaster season in 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams. After being one of the most talked about players the NFL last offseason due to his knee issue, the team could not figure out how to utilize him. Now, his future with the team could be in doubt.
ESPN has boldly predicted that the Rams will try to trade Gurley this offseason. They listed his contract as the main reason L.A. would look to move the superstar running back, along with the long-term health concerns surrounding his knee.
If Gurley does go on the trade block, there will be plenty of teams interested in acquiring him. Even with his health concerns, he is still worth a first-round pick. Los Angeles might even be willing to trade him for a second-round pick and a couple other assets to unload his contract.
During the 2019 season with the Rams, Gurley carried the football 223 times for 857 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught 31 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers aren’t what fans are used to from him, but they weren’t awful either.
At 25 years old, Gurley still has a few good years of football left in his prime. His knee does have concerns, but his talent is worth the risk.
However, the Rams would be making a big mistake by trying to trade him. Granted, his role is tough to figure out, but running backs like Gurley don’t come around often. Sean McVay and the Rams need to figure out how to utilize him rather than simply moving on from him.
It will be an interesting offseason to follow along with the Rams. They missed the playoffs in 2019 one year after making it to the Super Bowl.
Expect to hear quite a few more rumors and bold predictions come out about them in the next few weeks. Gurley likely won’t move, but this could be something to keep an eye on.
