The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be an interesting team to keep an eye on during the NFL offseason. After seeing Ben Roethlisberger call it a career, there will be quite a few decisions to be made. One player to keep a close eye on will be wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Over the last couple of years, Claypool has been an integral part of the Steelers’ offense. He has shown flashes of being a potential star. While he has shown flashes, consistency will be key for him moving forward.

Claypool is coming off of another solid season with the Steelers, but his future with the franchise could be in a bit of doubt. ESPN has suggested that Pittsburgh could consider trading the young wideout this offseason.

The Steelers usually stand behind young players, but if there’s a chance to acquire great value, Pittsburgh would be smart to listen.

Granted, this isn’t a report that the Steelers are going to shop Claypool in trade talks. However, it’s a sentiment that makes a lot of sense for a franchise like Pittsburgh. They are about to go into a rebuild and if they can get a good offer they should at least consider it.

During the 2021 NFL season, Claypool ended up catching 59 passes for 860 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t find the end zone much, but those opportunities will come. The numbers weren’t what he was hoping for, but they weren’t shabby either.

At 23 years of age, Claypool could offer a team a potential No. 1 option. That alone would make him a valuable trade asset if the Steelers would consider the possibility. Or, they could simply bring him back and hope that he becomes their No. 1 wide receiver with JuJu Smith-Schuster likely leaving town in free agency.

Chase Claypool is most likely to remain with the Steelers this offseason. No one should be expecting any kind of trade involving him. But this is certainly something interesting to keep in the back of your mind.
