The Oklahoma Sooners have a very big wide receiver in their 2022 recruiting class. His name is Luther Burden and he hails from Saint Louis, Missouri. Burden has the potential to be the next big wideout to come out of Oklahoma and his potential is through the roof.
Making his commitment to the Sooners came after quite a few high-profile teams made aggressive pushes to get him to commit. Among the other suitors for him were Alabama, Auburn, and Arizona State. However, they didn’t stand a chance against Oklahoma.
Standing in at 6-foot-2 and a shade under 200 pounds, Burden has the size and athleticism to be a big star for the Sooners. He will follow in the steps of great wide receivers before him, including CeeDee Lamb and Marquise Brown. This is a perfect situation for both Burden and the Sooners.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch him play, here are some of his highlights. The kid can flat out ball.
Luther Burden took the time for a short exclusive interview with NFL Analysis Network. If you’re a Sooners fan, this is must-read stuff. Enjoy!
First, we started by asking what the main deciding factors were for Burden in his commitment to the Sooners.
“I chose Oklahoma because coach Simmons and Riley made Oklahoma feel like home and well welcomed. We also built a great relationship with each other and Oklahoma throws the ball a lot. I feel like I’m in good hands with them.”
Next up, we described the kind of game that he brings to the field. He is going to be fun to watch, to say the least.
“I’m a playmaker and I can change the game with one play. I’m exciting to watch.”
We mentioned CeeDee Lamb’s name earlier. Burden opened up about feeling like he compares to Lamb a bit. He also explained why.
“CeeDee Lamb because I attract so much attention and because I feel like I turn a short pass play into a touchdown.”
At this point in his career, Burden was very honest about what he feels are his biggest strengths and weaknesses.
“My biggest strengths are that my team can count on me to make a play at all times when needed and my weaknesses are that I just want to get better at everything, even my strengths.”
Burden is all about bringing a National Championship to Oklahoma, but the NFL is also a big-time goal of his.
“My team goal is to win a national championship and individual goal is to make a name and get to the NFL.”
Looking ahead to his career with the Sooners, we asked Burden if there was a team he is looking forward to playing with the most. He doesn’t have one, but he is ready and excited to play anyone.
“I’m excited to play against everybody, because where I’m from this is a really big opportunity to go to the next level.”
For young players with dreams of playing high-level college football, Burden has some advice for you.
“Pay attention to detail as much as possible and take no days off.”
Finally, he left us with a message for the Sooners fans out there. He’s ready to ball and you’re going to love what you see.
“#BoomerSooner. #HornDown.”
