Falcons Named Best Match For This Intriguing WR In NFL Free Agency

Jakobi Meyers, Falcons

First and foremost this offseason, the Atlanta Falcons have to figure out their quarterback situation. Desmond Ridder looks like he will be the starter right now, but they have also been linked to Lamar Jackson. Regardless of who is under center for Atlanta in 2023, this is an offense that needs more weapons.

The coaching staff has gotten the most out of a group that doesn’t have many household names but has young building blocks. Tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Drake London were selected in the first round in 2021 and 2022. Tyler Allgeier was a fifth-round pick in 2022 and is capable of leading the backfield.

For this offense to take that next step, there needs to be another weapon in the passing game beyond Pitts and London. For some perspective, Olamide Zaccheaus finished second on the team with 40 receptions and 533 yards in 17 games.

Adding another wide receiver to the mix would be a good plan this offseason. With money to blow, the best match suggested for the Falcons is Jakobi Meyers. Meyers has spent the first four years of his career with the New England Patriots after going undrafted in 2019 and is now set to cash in as a free agent.

While the Patriots would certainly love to keep him, there is a good chance he prices himself out of town. As arguably the best wide receiver available this offseason, there will be plenty of suitors driving up his price.

In Atlanta, Meyers would be a perfect fit as a slot receiver with elite route-running ability. While not a true No. 1 receiver like he was cast in New England, the Falcons don’t need him to be that. A No. 2 that can win on shorter routes while London and Pitts terrorize defenses down the field is all that would be required of Meyers.

It is fair to assume that another level can be reached by Meyers. He was successful last season despite the lack of consistent production at quarterback, ranking 25th out of 85 qualifying players in receiving DVOA. ESPN’s rankings didn’t have him too far off of that as he was 28th in 2022 and 23rd in 2021.
