This Falcons-Ravens Trade Sends Lamar Jackson To Atlanta

There are going to be a lot of eyes on Lamar Jackson this off-season. He is set to hit the free agent market as he and the Baltimore Ravens have been unable to come to an agreement on a new contract.

There is certainly still a chance that the Ravens place the franchise tag on him so that they can exclusively negotiate a new deal with him. But, given the reported gap between the two sides, there is plenty of work to do.

There have also been reports of the Ravens receiving trade calls on Lamar Jackson. If they aren’t willing to pay him a massive contract, there are plenty of teams around the league who would be willing to do so. Could one of those teams be the Atlanta Falcons?

The Falcons used a third-round pick on Desmond Ridder in the 2022 NFL Draft and he played well when he got his shot. He replaced Marcus Mariota for the last four games of the season, completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 708 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

Atlanta went 2-2 in those games, which was certainly an encouraging start to Ridder’s career. However, if the Falcons have a chance to acquire Lamar Jackson, it is one that they could jump at.

Over at Bleacher Report, a massive blockbuster deal was put together that lands Lamar Jackson in Atlanta. The Falcons are sending the No. 8 and No. 114 overall picks in the 2023 NFL Draft and first-rounders in 2024 and 2025 to the Ravens, along with Ridder.

That is a huge trade package and one that the Ravens could seriously consider accepting. That kind of draft capital will give them the chance to upgrade the roster around Ridder should they give him a shot at being their starter or find a replacement for Lamar Jackson.

Falcons fans would be giddy about the potential of a Lamar Jackson-led offense. Head coach Arthur Smith had the offense 15th in 2022 with Mariota and Ridder at the helm; imagine what he could do with a dynamic talent such as Lamar Jackson leading the way?

The Falcons are already a top rushing offense in the league and would be even more dangerous with the former MVP under center. With Drake London emerging as a No. 1 option at wide receiver and mismatch nightmare Kyle Pitts at tight end, the opportunities are limitless in this offense.

It would be hard to imagine the Falcons not being AFC South favorites should they be able to add Lamar Jackson to their lineup. They would have the most stable quarterback situation in the division, giving them a leg up on the competition.
