Fantasy Football: 3 backfields to avoid for the 2020 season

Earlier this offseason, the Houston Texans shocked the world when they traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. Not only did they part ways with Hopkins but they did so to acquire David Johnson — who’s had a rough time staying on the field in recent seasons.

Altogether, Johnson has missed 18 games in the past three seasons due to injuries. Even when Johnson started in all 16 games in 2018 for the Cardinals, he rushed for only 940 yards on 258 attempts. Provided that, it’s hard to envision Johnson returning to his 2016 form with the Texans in 2020.

Houston also features another Johnson in the backfield in Duke Johnson. Duke has typically been utilized as a receiving threat in whatever offense he’s been a part of. The Miami product has only logged 100 carries in a single season once, which came in his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns. With the Texans having Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills, Will Fuller, Randall Cobb, and even David Johnson, Duke could see a decrease in targets in 2020. As a result, both Johnsons in Houston’s backfield are risky options in fantasy football next season.
