Fantasy Football: 3 Reasons to Be Cautious of Tight End Evan Engram

Brad Penner- USA Today Sports

Eli Manning’s History with Tight Ends

Since 2005, when Eli Manning became the full-time starter for the Giants, he has undergone some notable inconsistent play. There have been years where Manning has led the league in interceptions and years he has taken the Giants to the Super Bowl.

But with the plethora of options surrounding the Giants’ veteran, he should have a very solid year coming up. The issue for anyone wanting to drafting Evan Engram in fantasy, though, is Manning doesn’t really throw to his tight ends.

Since becoming the full-time starter, not one tight end as had over a 1,000 yards with Manning under center.

The closest tight end to recording 1,000 receiving yards was Jeremy Shockey, who had 891 yards in the 2005 season. Manning is just one of those quarterbacks more likely to throw it to his wide receivers rather than the tight end.

When it comes down to it, selecting Engram could wind up being a good pick over tight ends who are a questionable TE1. But keeping a solid contingency plan to Engram is just as critical.

Due to the factors mentioned, Engram will most likely have a sophomore slump and a down year in fantasy football.
