Gronk’s Declining Touchdown Ratio
Whisper it quietly but Gronkowski’s Touchdown per game ratio has been in decline recently. In his first six years in the NFL, he averaged a touchdown in 81 percent of his games. In the last two seasons, that is down to 50 percent. Yes, it is still productive but it’s enough to keep Gronk away from the borderline first round/early second round pick he has been in re-draft leagues in the past. 2018 should see him fall back to the pack from the lofty heights of years gone by.
Gone too are the days of the 17 touchdown season he had in 2011. The nearest he has come to that season was 12 touchdowns in 2014. With the Patriots now looking like they will be using a two-back set, it will mean even more touchdowns than before will be going to the running backs.
By contrast Tyler Eifert (excluding 2017 due to injury) had 86 percent touchdown per game ratio. He should be a solid option and will be available late in most leagues. The Bengals tight end has had his injury woes but represents value late on when others have picked the usual suspects.
