Fantasy Football: 3 Reasons to Steer Clear of Rob Gronkowski in 2018

Retirement Talk

This offseason has been one like no other for Gronkowski. If there hadn’t been all the drama with Tom Brady and the talk about his retirement, there would have surely been a lot more focus on Gronk and his retirement hints instead. We all know his history with injuries, but even at the age of 29, it would seem a bit early to be thinking about retirement, let alone stating it publicly.

If he did truly contemplate retirement this offseason, then this raises a few questions:

  • How bought in to the current season is he?
  • Will the Patriots limit his snaps as part of some handshake agreement to keep him happy and playing?
  • How ready will he be for the start of the season after skipping mini-camp and sitting out the pre-season games?

Some of the above questions could be dispelled easily in the first game of the season, but they are fair questions to ask. Whilst Bill Belichick will never admit to limiting Gronkowski’s snaps as part of an agreement, (and whilst it is a conspiracy theory) it is plausible. What all of this could result in, is a drop in on field production and a drop in fantasy points.
