5. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Don’t get me wrong, Jackson is in line for another good season in 2020. But a repeat of last year, when he led the league in touchdown passes (36) and ran for 1,206 yards (the single-season record for a quarterback), is simply not happening. Jackson said himself that he expects to run less this year after setting the single-season record for carries by a quarterback in 2019 (176).
“I doubt if I’m going to be carrying the ball a lot going on in the future,” Jackson said on a Tuesday conference call, via Clifton Brown of the team website. “We’ve got dynamic running backs. We’re going to have even more receivers. We’ve got Hollywood (Brown), Mark Andrews, Nick (Boyle), Willie Snead, Miles (Boykin). We’re going to be pretty good. I don’t think I’ll be running a lot.”
Jackson’s rushing production is not going away, but another 1,000 yard season on the ground in 2020 is unlikely.
Jackson can still be regarded as a top-5 fantasy quarterback for 2020. But with a bit of regression coming and a second-round ADP that seems sure to hold up, he’s the poster boy for waiting to draft a quarterback this year.
