Fantasy Football: 5 sleeper running backs plays in Week 5

Devonta Freeman, New York Giants

After the unfortunate season ending injury to Saquon Barkley, the Giants brought in veteran back, Devonta Freeman. Freeman was once dominant in Atlanta, particularly on their Super Bowl run. But, got released after injuries and a lack of production. While the Giants do not have the best running offensive line in the league, I do like what I’ve seen from Freeman thus far on the year.

Freeman started with the Giants in Week 3 versus the San Francisco 49ers. In his debut, he rushed 5 times for 10 yards recording 1.0 fantasy points. While that does not seem starter worthy, it was his first game with a brand new team learning a brand new offense.

In last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, Freeman saw more playing time and as a result, produced more in fantasy. Freeman rushed 11 times for 33 yards (3.3 points) and was also a factor in the passing game. He caught 4 passes for 35 yards (7.5) out of the backfield.

This week, he will be going up against a Dallas Cowboy defense that can’t seem to stop anybody. They struggle in both the passing and running game. The Dallas Cowboys defense currently ranks 14th against the run in fantasy, allowing an average of 22.90 points per game to running backs.

The Cowboys are coming off a week where they allowed over 300 rushing yards to the Cleveland Browns. I expect Freeman to big a factor in this game as he is continually learning the offense and getting more reps along the way. I urge fantasy football owners to start him this week against Dallas.
