4. J.K. Dobbins, Ravens
Another rookie running back that has immense fantasy football potential is Baltimore Ravens 2nd round pick, J.K. Dobbins. Outside of Clyde Edwards-Helaire going to the Chiefs, Dobbins heading the Ravens is the best fit among the rookie running backs.
Dobbins should thrive in the Ravens record-setting run scheme. Dobbins is an explosive runner that took 57% of his carries last year out of RPO’s (run-pass option). No team in the NFL came close to the Ravens 230 RPO rushing attempts last year. Pairing Dobbins with Lamar Jackson on RPO’s will be unfair for opposing defenses this year.
The talent and long-term potential is there for Dobbins to have an awesome career with the Ravens. For his rookie season though, will Dobbins have enough opportunity to be relevant in fantasy? Well the Ravens do have a crowded backfield with Mark Ingram, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill. But the Ravens do not draft J.K. Dobbins at 55 overall in the draft if they do not plan on using him. He is more talented than both Edwards and Hill.
It’s possible the Ravens could shave some off some of Ingram’s carries to preserve him for later in the season. The same goes for Jackson and limiting the franchise QB’s carries as well. The Ravens rushed the ball 596 times last season, there are plenty of touches to go around and Dobbins is too talented not to see work.
Dobbins’ ADP on ESPN currently is 148.5 and RB44 off the board. He is the perfect late-round bench stash you’re looking for in a running back. His touches may be limited to start off the year but his upside to becoming a fantasy asset is a sky-high. Dobbins is a valuable hand-cuff for Mark Ingram. If anything were to happen to Ingram, Dobbins could vault into RB2 territory.
