1. Kareem Hunt, Browns
There is no bigger wild-card at the running back position this year than Kareem Hunt. Once an elite fantasy football asset, Hunt went through his off the field issues a few years ago. After his 8-game suspension last season, Hunt returned to the field for the Browns as quickly became an important weapon for them.
The Browns of course already have a top tier running back on their team in Nick Chubb. Chubb will certainly see a good chunk of the work as the team’s leading rusher, but Hunt will see an increase in his work-load as he is now available for all 16 games.
In 8 games last season Hunt emerged as a top target out of the backfield. He had 44 targets and 37 receptions for 285 yards and 1 touchdown. On a 16 game pace that put him with 88 targets and 74 receptions for 569 yards and 2 touchdowns. His carries should increase from 43 to close 100 this year. This type of volume turns Hunt into a James White-type of role for the Browns. Which is still a very valuable fantasy asset as White finished as RB22 in half-PPR leagues.
Currently going RB25 off the boards with an ADP on ESPN of 73.9, Hunt will be a very nice flex piece and RB3 for fantasy owners in PPR or half-PPR leagues. And if anything were to happen to Chubb, Hunt quickly becomes an elite RB1 for fantasy. That type of extra value makes Hunt the biggest sleeper in fantasy this season.
