Fantasy Football outlook for wide receivers from the NFC South in 2020

Rounding out the NFC South is the Carolina Panthers who are a fascinating fantasy team as a whole. The Cam Newton era has come to end in Carolina. Enter in new head coach Matt Rhule and new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Of course, they also have the premier fantasy player in the league with RB Christian McCaffrey. At the wide receiver position, they have the player who I think has the best chance to be this year’s Chris Godwin-type breakout, and that’s D.J. Moore.

Moore enters 2020 with two seasons of very exciting and ascending production. He is coming off a fine looking stat-line of 87-1,175-4 last season, which placed him at WR16 in PPR. Even with taking a back seat to McCaffrey in targets, Moore has the ability to improve pretty nicely on those numbers.

The third-year receiver is electric with the ball in his hands and a YAC-monster. If Moore can grab 100+ balls and increase his touchdowns by only 2 or 3, he can enter elite WR status. Moore’s hype is already pretty high with an ADP of 32.6, WR11 on ESPN. However, this is a fairly reasonable cost for a low-end WR1 with sky-high upside.

With McCaffrey and Moore looking to secure a good chuck of the team’s targets the rest of the wide receivers for Carolina are more of fantasy football depth pieces. Curtis Samuel is a fine player and that actually did get 105 targets in 2019, but those did not amount to much fantasy production.

Then there is new Panther Robby Anderson, as he brings a deep-threat element to the team. He was a disappointing fantasy asset last season with the Jets and will see probably less targets than the 96 targets he got in New York. Both Samuel and Anderson do offer some value in 2020 as late-round fliers.
