Fantasy Football: Position-by-Position Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Picks for Week 13

QBs to start in Week 13

Vikings’ Kirk Cousins (vs. Jaguars): Don’t look now but Kirk Cousins has been one of the better QB options in fantasy football in recent weeks. From Week 10-12, Cousins is the fourth highest-scoring QB (67.72 fantasy points) in fantasy football, only behind Deshaun Watson (78.6), Aaron Rodgers (74.78), and Tom Brady (70.18). After torching the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers for 22+ fantasy points, Cousins draws a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that is allowing 11.9 yards per completion (tied for fifth-most in the NFL) and 23 passing touchdowns, which is tied for second-most in the league.

Raiders’ Derek Carr (vs. Jets): A week ago, it looked as if Derek Carr was a more-than-viable play in fantasy football. Carr would face the Atlanta Falcons, only to score a measly 0.6 fantasy points. He would somehow be outscored by Nathan Peterman, who replaced Carr in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, we’re going right back to Carr this week, who faces the hapless New York Jets. The defense of the Jets are giving up a completion percentage of 71.8 percent (worst in the NFL) and 21.41 fantasy points per game to QBs (fourth-worst in the NFL). If Carr can’t perform well this week, then Jon Gruden may spontaneously combust.

Rams’ Jared Goff (vs. Cardinals): Another quarterback that had a disappointing showing in Week 12 was Jared Goff. Goff would finish with 3.02 fantasy points, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble versus the San Francisco 49ers. At the least, Goff has a prime opportunity to bounce back versus the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13. Even though the Cardinals are a slightly improved defense this season, Goff has combined for 1,313 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception in his last four meetings with Arizona.

Other QBs to consider in Week 13: Titans’ Ryan Tannehill (vs. Browns), Saints’ Taysom Hill (vs. Falcons), Bears’ Mitchell Trubisky (if you’re desperate vs. Lions)

QBs to sit in Week 13

Washington’s Alex Smith (vs. Steelers): Alex Smith continues to inch closer to winning the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award as he continues to start for the Washington Football Team. While he’s helped Washington win their last two games, Smith has been tough to trust in fantasy football, posting fewer than nine fantasy points in back-to-back weeks. It’s hard to envision him being a start-able option against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have limited opposing QBs to 13.38 fantasy points per week (least in the NFL) and have forced 16 interceptions (most in the league).

Eagles’ Carson Wentz (vs. Packers): It appears that it’s only a matter of time before Carson Wentz gets benched in favor of Jalen Hurts. Wentz seems to be broken, leading the league with 19 turnovers. Even against a historically bad pass defense of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11, Wentz had just 215 passing yards — his fourth-straight game of under 250 yards. While he’ll need to throw the ball often to keep pace with the Green Bay Packers, having the ball in Wentz’s hands right now is not particularly a good thing.
