Baker Mayfield
In his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns in 2018, Baker Mayfield provided plenty of optimism for the future. The former Sooner would finish his debut season with 3,725 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. And entering his second season with the Browns, the hype surrounding Mayfield was through the roof with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr.
Unfortunately, Mayfield and Cleveland’s entire offense would fail to have much success in 2019. The fearless quarterback would complete only 59.4 percent of his passes (down from 63.8 percent as a rookie) for 3,827 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. Despite his struggles, Mayfield could be gearing up for a bounce-back year in 2020 under new head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Under Stefanski, the Browns are going to run more 12 personnel and will have a more run-centric offense next season. Look at Kirk Cousins stats from a season ago to see what Mayfield’s ceiling could possibly be in his first year with Stefanski.
While Mayfield could be more efficient under Stefanski, the Browns could utilize Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt on the ground more often. As this article is being written, Mayfield holds an ADP of 107 according to FantasyPros — putting him just four picks behind Tom Brady. After finishing as the 19th highest-scoring quarterback in fantasy football a season ago, Mayfield may have a tough time returning a ton of value in 2020.
