Josh Allen
When searching for a quarterback in fantasy football, quarterbacks that contribute as a runner are coveted more often than not. In his first two seasons in the NFL, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills has proven to be a viable rushing threat. At the same time, his passing has left a lot to be desired.
Just last season, Allen finished as the No. 6 quarterback in fantasy football in large part due to him rushing for 510 yards (third-most among QBs) and nine touchdowns (most among QBs). With his arm though, Allen would continue to struggle with his accuracy, completing only 58.8 percent of his attempts. He would also net a 20.3 percent bad throw percentage, planting him as the fifth-worst quarterback in that statistic in 2019.
Furthermore, Allen would average 9.3 intended air yards per attempt. tying him for the fifth-best mark in the NFL. Although, he would average just 3.8 complete air yards per attempt (14th in the NFL). The low CAY/PA could be attributed to his sporadic accuracy and the number of drops (31) his wide receivers had in 2019.
With Stefon Diggs being traded to the Bills, Allen has become a popular commodity, currently being taken as QB7 in fantasy drafts. Following his stellar season as a runner in 2019, Allen will likely see some regression in that facet of his game in 2020. Even though he could slightly improve his passing numbers in the upcoming season, it’s hard to envision Allen finishing ahead of guys like Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Matthew Stafford — who are all being taken after Allen. Provided that, fantasy football players should be wary of taking Allen in 2020.
