The Jordan Love era has gotten off to a very interesting start with the Green Bay Packers. He has also been a very interesting Fantasy Football option.
Love has some very big shoes to fill, as he is replacing Aaron Rodgers under center. Rodgers had been the starting quarterback for the Packers since 2008 and established himself as one of the best signal-callers of all-time during his tenure in Green Bay, so Love has a tough act to follow.
The good news is that it has not seemed to bother Love, as he has embraced the pressure that comes with being the quarterback of one of the NFL’s most popular teams.
Love has produced mixed results early on, leading the Packers to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 but then faltering in what could be described as his toughest test yet in a Week 4 loss to the Detroit Lions.
So, should Fantasy Football owners start or sit Love for his club’s Week 5 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders?
At this point, you should probably sit Love.
The fact of the matter is that while Love has obvious arm talent, he has been far too inconsistent in the early going to recommend a start, especially against a Raiders pass defense that is actually not that bad (it ranks 13th in the NFL).
It’s not all Love’s fault, either. He doesn’t have a true No. 1 receiver to throw to, and the Packers’ rushing attack has been brutal over the last several weeks due to Aaron Jones‘ lingering hamstring injury.
Plus, Green Bay will now be without left tackle David Bakhtiari for the rest of the season, so the odds are certainly stacked against Love right now.
Does that mean Love can’t become a viable option as the season progresses? No, but right now, he and the Packers are still figuring things out. They just got wide receiver Christian Watson back last week, and there has been speculation that Green Bay could add another wide out before the Oct. 31 trade deadline.
Until things become clearer in Green Bay, I would advise against starting Jordan Love, who went 23-for-36 with 246 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions last week.
