Fantasy Football: Top 5 Players to Avoid in the Draft

USA TODAY Sports

4. Ben Roethlisberger (QB, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Ben Roethlisberger being on this list might be a surprise to some, but it shouldn’t be. There’s no doubt Big Ben is one of the best QB’s in the league still, but in fantasy terms, he’s kind of disappointing. Last year, he ranked as the 10th highest scoring QB in fantasy.

Big Ben is a QB who has insane home/road splits. If you don’t believe me, look for yourself. Just last season, at home he averaged 20.5 fantasy points per game, while on the road he averaged just 14.7 points per game. That’s definitely eye-opening and raises a red flag.

The thing is, he’s been doing this the last four years. In the last four years, he is averaging 23.3 points per game at home, while on the road he is averaging an abysmal 14 points per game. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t lie. These stats make it hard to trust a guy like Roethlisberger, especially for the eight weeks he isn’t at Heinz Field.

Currently, Big Ben is being taken as the 10th QB in fantasy drafts this year. This puts him ahead of a guy like Matthew Stafford. I believe Roethlisberger falls outside of the top 10 fantasy QBs this season, likely because of the inconsistency away from home. We could also see regression from Big Ben as he turned 36 this offseason.
