Running Back Is Fantasy’s Most Important Position
For starters, running back is undoubtedly the most important skill position to fill in fantasy football. The lack of depth beneath the top-tier of the position explains the dilemma.
According to ESPN’s ADP Rankings, there are 14 halfbacks in the top 26 overall players. However, after that, the next three available backs with the highest ADP’s are Jordan Howard (31), Joe Mixon (33), and Kenyan Drake (40). That’s one heck of a drop-off in what would be just the third round, if not the second round, of fantasy drafts.
Barkley comes in with a 6.8 ADP, which is a mid-late first round pick no matter what. Especially given the minimal depth outside the early rounds, fantasy draftees would be wise to have two starting running backs in their first two or three picks.
Barkley is capable of being one of the best RB1 candidates in fantasy football and his absolute floor is a high-end RB2. Those characteristics undoubtedly have him going in the first round.
