Former NFL Star Gets Brutally Honest On Jets’ Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made some bold comments heading into organized team activities, putting all of the pressure on himself heading into 2024.

Rodgers said that if he doesn’t play up to his capabilities next season, a lot of people on the Jets are going to lose their jobs.

That could include players, coaches and front office personnel.

During a recent episode of FS1’s The Carton Show, former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings—who made a couple of Pro Bowls playing with Rodgers in Green Bay—thinks Rodgers’ comments are bad news for the rest of the league.

Jennings said that there is “no one better” than Rodgers when he maintains this mentality.

It is certainly eye opening to see Rodgers take on all of the responsibility and put everything on his shoulders. Essentially, Rodgers is saying, “it’s on me.”

And you know what? It probably is.

Rodgers is obviously the key to a successful Jets season in 2024, and if that doesn’t occur, New York may end up parting ways with the 40-year-old.

When the Jets acquired Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Packers last year, they signed him to a contract extension that runs through the end of next season. So, if Rodgers underperforms, Gang Green may very well let the future Hall-of-Famer walk next March.

Or, he may just end up retiring.

Either way, this is clearly an all-or-nothing type of campaign for Rodgers and the Jets.

It was kind of supposed to be that way last year, too, but Rodgers ended up tearing his Achilles on New York’s first offensive series of Week 1, knocking him out for the season and ending the Jets’ Super Bowl hopes in the process.

But this offseason, New York has doubled down, acquiring several pieces to help Rodgers on the offensive end. It signed wide receiver Mike Williams in free agency. It drafted intriguing wide out Malachi Corley. It patched up what was a brutal offensive line.

On paper, the Jets look very imposing heading into 2024. Let’s also keep in mind that this managed to go a somewhat respectable 7-10 without Rodgers last season.

Still, if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t deliver, New York is going to be in for a year full of disappointment yet again.
