Former NFL Star Rips Cowboys’ Dak Prescott For Offensive Struggles

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a shocking defeat in Week 3 at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. After running roughshod through the New York Giants and New York Jets in the first two weeks of the season, winning by a combined score of 70-10, Dallas was stopped in their tracks in the desert.

The Cardinals took a lead on the opening drive of the game and never looked back, coming away with a 28-16 victory. The Cowboys were clicking in almost every facet of the game entering Week 3 but couldn’t get anything on track.

A big concern for the team for the remainder of the season is filling the void left by the injury to Trevon Diggs. He tore his ACL in practice leading up to the game against the Cardinals and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Alas, the biggest concern for Dallas at this point looks to be their offense. The team has struggled mightily in the red zone as the losses of running back Ezekiel Elliott and Dalton Schultz have hurt. No one has stepped into their roles as the team’s top two red zone options successfully.

The playcalling of head coach Mike McCarthy has also been called into question. He took over for Kellen Moore, who is now overseeing the Los Angeles Chargers offense, which is second in the league in red zone efficiency.

But, in the opinion of former NFL player, the issue for the Cowboys is quarterback Dak Prescott. Running back turned analyst LeSean McCoy ripped into the Dallas starter while making an appearance on Speak on FS1. He believes the team’s playcalling is conservative because of Prescott.

“They were super conservative
why are they super conservative? They don’t have a rookie quarterback. They don’t trust Dak Prescott. If you’re gonna pay a QB $160 something million dollars and you don’t trust him to throw the ball without making turnovers — you can’t win like that,” McCoy said.

That is certainly a hot take from McCoy and one that some people may agree with. Prescott has proven capable of putting up big numbers, but he has not shown that he is capable of elevating the level of his teammates around him to be true contenders.
