Former Steelers Player Throws Major Shade At Kenny Pickett

Kenny Pickett, Steelers

Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers have somehow put themselves in the midst of the AFC playoff race with a 6-3 record, and if they are lucky and good enough, they may even have a shot, believe it or not, at finishing first in the AFC North.

They have managed to put together such a solid record despite the fact that second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett hasn’t exactly looked like the second coming of Ben Roethlisberger or Terry Bradshaw.

But somehow, Pickett has been making enough plays down the stretch of games to deliver victory for Pittsburgh.

NFL News & Rumors: Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers Updates

There is a school of thought that even though he’s very early in his NFL career, Pickett simply isn’t worthy of being Pittsburgh’s franchise quarterback. Former wide receiver Nate Washington, who won two Super Bowl championships with Roethlisberger in the 2000s, is one of those who believes Pickett isn’t all that.

Through nine games, the University of Pittsburgh product has completed only 61.3 percent of his passes and thrown for 1,616 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. The Steelers have been finding ways to grind out victories in crunch time, and while that is certainly commendable, that combined with Pickett’s subpar play isn’t exactly a recipe for sustained success.

They rank close to the bottom of the NFL in multiple offensive categories, and they have scored over 20 points in only four of their nine contests.

The next two weeks will be very challenging for the Steelers. They will head on the road to face the rival Cleveland Browns this Sunday, and a week after that, they will visit the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that may be back on track after a rough start to the season.

Those two games will likely go a long way in determining Pittsburgh’s fate this season, and Pickett will need to perk up in order to get his team at least one win in those two contests.
