New York Giants: 3 Burning Questions Following Week 2 Loss vs. Cowboys

USA TODAY Sports

Can This Offensive Line Improve Any?

The offensive line play for the Giants has been atrocious through two weeks. The offensive line was supposed to be improved, as they acquired guys in the offseason to bulk up their line. They signed linemen Nate Solder and Patrick Omameh in free agency. The Giants also drafted offensive guard Will Hernandez in this year’s NFL Draft.

So far, there’s been no signs of improvement for the Giants in the trenches. You can’t say one of these guys is playing well. As a collective unit, they’ve been pretty bad and that’s putting it lightly.

Against the Cowboys, the Giants allowed six sacks on Eli Manning. Of course a couple of them were on Manning for holding the ball too long, but the others were inexcusable. The Cowboys weren’t doing anything special on defense.

They’d send three or four guys each play to rush the QB, while they were in zone coverage. With that, they were able to be in Manning’s face the majority of the contest.

That isn’t a defense a guy like Solder or anyone on the line hasn’t seen before. Those up front were missing assignments and were outplayed from the first snap. Right tackle Ereck Flowers might be the weakest link on the offensive line, but it’s not just him who’s causing the line to struggle.

Can this O-line improve any going forward?

It’d be hard not to get any better than they’ve played to begin this season. The Giants will need their offensive line to step up in a huge way against a J.J. Wattled Texans defense in Week 3, searching for their first win as well
