No. 2: Contain Deshaun Watson
The Giants defensive line and pass-rushers will have their work cut out for them this week. So far through two weeks, the defense has just one sack. They are going to need to create more pressure by drawing more exotic blitzes or something.
Their pass rush last week was nonexistent. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was able to have enough time to take a nap, then throw the ball in the pocket. He was able to get too comfortable last week, making it easy for the Cowboys to secure the win.
This week is a new week and things can change. The Giants will still be without EDGE Olivier Vernon, which really hurts. They’ll need someone to step up in a big way to start making it more uncomfortable for opposing quarterbacks.
This week they’ll face Houston’s quarterback, Deshaun Watson, who loves to make plays with his legs. The Giants defense will need to contain him and keep him in the pocket. If he’s able to escape out of the pocket, the Giants defense could be in trouble on Sunday.
There’s not one QB in the NFL who likes getting hit. Pressure can make a quarterback have a different mindset during the game, changing the way he plays likely in the defense’s favor.
To win this game, the Giants will need to be more physical from the beginning of the game, getting in Watson’s personal space.
