Matt Skura, Baltimore Ravens
The Giants need a center. Plain and simple.
Spencer Pulley is in line to be the starting center. He’s been more of a backup in his time in New York, but unless the Giants elect to try Shane Lemieux or Nick Gates at a position they have never played at the NFL at least, Pulley is the guy.
Luckily for them, there is a plethora of quality centers that should be available in 2021 free agency. And that the beauty of that is Gettleman could sign an above-average center without breaking the bank.
Enter Matt Skura. The Baltimore Ravens’ center was excellent in 2019 before tearing his ACL, MCL and PCL (ouch) in Week 12. It’s an injury he’s still rehabbing, but he’s in line to be the starter again after signing a one-year restricted free agent tender with the Ravens, with a cap hit of just over $2 million.
Sure, the Giants could go after bigger names like Corey Linsley, Alex Mack or Ryan Kelly. But Skura should come at a cheaper price, especially where teams might be wary of him coming off such a significant injury.
