Jason McCourty, New England Patriots
Gettleman took one step in improving the secondary this past offseason, bringing in James Bradberry to pair alongside DeAndre Baker. However, it’s only a matter of time before Baker gets cut, after being charged with four counts of robbery. It’s an unfortunate waste of a first-round pick that the Giants even traded up for.
So once again, the cornerback position will be something that needs to be addressed in 2021. Currently, it looks like Corey Ballentine will play opposite Bradberry. The secondary has been, well, not good, for the Giants as of recent and the loss of Baker certainly doesn’t help.
With Joe Judge coming over from the New England Patriots, it’s an opportunity for some of his former players to join him, one of them being Jason McCourty. McCourty has improved in New England and has been a trusted cornerback for man coverage. Giants’ new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham calls more man coverage than zone and McCourty would be a great fit for his system.
In terms of cost, McCourty would be cheaper than other options like Patrick Peterson or Jalen Ramsey. The Giants already are paying Bradberry a hefty $43.5 million over three years. New York shouldn’t be breaking the bank at the same position and McCourty could be a solid cornerback option at the right price.
