The New York Giants are one of several teams that could be in the market for a quarterback during the 2024 NFL offseason. This certainly isn’t where ownership thought they would be a year ago today, as the team was coming off a very successful first season under head coach Brian Daboll.
In 2022, the Giants went 9-7-1, earning a Wild Card spot and winning a playoff game on the road. The foundation looked to be built for the once proud franchise to return to prominence after so many down years. Alas, that success was not meant to last.
This past season, the Giants were one of the worst teams in the NFL. Their offense was abysmal as Daniel Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract last offseason, was unable to replicate his success from the 2022 season.

Some of those shortcomings can be placed on the supporting cast around him. The Giants’ offensive line was not very good, and the offensive game plan fell apart as a result. But, Jones did himself no favors, as he played very poorly when he was healthy.
That has left a lot of people wondering whether or not the Giants would use this as an opportunity to select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. Currently slated to pick No. 6 overall, New York likely isn’t in range to select one of the top prospects unless something changes between now and the draft.
However, general manager Joe Schoen is doing everything he can to put the team in a position to land a new signal caller. According to Connor Hughes of SNYtv, via WBG84 on X, it is the worst-kept secret in the NFL that the Giants want to select a quarterback in the draft and are willing to make a trade up the board to do so.
That is some big news, as recent reports indicated that wasn’t the direction the team was looking to go in the draft. They would look to bring in a quarterback, but it would likely be a stopgap veteran in free agency to compete with Jones for the starting job, not a youngster that could replace him as the franchise quarterback.

It shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise that Schoen is looking to make a move up the board. It is hard to put your career potentially on the line with Jones as your quarterback, as he has suffered two separate neck injuries and a torn ACL.
Selecting a rookie in the 2024 NFL Draft could buy him and Daboll a little more time to figure things out long-term. Success early on has arguably been their biggest detriment as it changed the course of their timeline and both could be on the hot seat if the team’s record doesn’t turn around in 2024.
