The New York Giants have a lot of areas to address on their roster during the 2024 NFL offseason. This will be an important few months for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, who are heading into Year 3 of their regime.

Pressure will be on to improve the talent on the roster as the team needs to perform better on the field. After making the playoffs in Year 1, the wheels fell off in Year 2, as the team went 6-11 and missed the playoffs.

The biggest issue they have to resolve is at quarterback. After signing Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension last offseason, he turned in the worst season of his career. He battled through a neck injury and eventually tore his ACL, but when he was on the field, his performance was pitiful.

People will point to his supporting cast being poor, but the Giants looked more competent with Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito running the offense than Jones at any point. Outside of the second half against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, Jones threw zero passing touchdowns on the season.

Will Schoen and Daboll put their faith in Jones for the 2024 season? They have said the starting job is his once he is healthy enough to play, but that could be ownership talking. It wouldn’t be the first time a general manager played coy when speaking to the media.

However, based on rumors that swirled at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama last week, Jones could legitimately be the guy in 2024. As shared by Matt Miller of ESPN, if the Giants add a quarterback this offseason, don’t expect it to be with their first-round pick. No. 6 overall.

“The Giants miss out on the top three quarterbacks, but the rumors swirling at the Senior Bowl among agents is that the Giants are more likely to add a veteran free agent QB to compete with Daniel Jones than draft one early,” Miller wrote in his recent mock draft.

As a result of how the board shook out, the Giants came away with Rome Odunze out of Washington. Built like a true No. 1 receiver and coming off a 2023 campaign he led college football in receiving yards, he brings everything to the wide receiver room New York is missing.

However, this could be the last time Schoen and Daboll have a chance to add a legitimate franchise quarterback of the future. Another losing season and ownership could relieve them of their duties. The 2025 NFL Draft class isn’t projected to be anywhere near as deep at quarterback either, which could present the Giants’ problems down the road and is partly how they have ended up in this situation.
