New York Giants: Top 5 Takeaways from Week 1 Loss vs. Jaguars

No. 3: Eli Apple Looked Very Solid

Cornerback Eli Apple was a huge question mark coming into this season. The Giants moved on from Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at corner, leaving Apple the opportunity to step into a starting role. There was also the drama between Apple and Landon Collins in the locker room last year.

Apparently that was cleared up very quickly this offseason.

The Giants are going to need Apple to show why he was the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He definitely showed his worth in the first game of the season today. Apple was very solid in coverage making plays all over the field.

Apple finished the game with three tackles and two pass deflections. You can’t ask much more from the former first-round pick. The Giants defense, as a whole, wasn’t bad in the passing game. Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles threw for just 176 yards on 33 attempts. Plus, the Giants intercepted him once and sacked him once as well.

Next week, Apple can continue his success against their division rival Cowboys.
