The New York Giants are a team that a lot of people are keeping an eye on with a few hours remaining until the 2023 NFL trade deadline. Given their 2-6 record, they are a team that will be sellers, for the right price.

Their firesale began with their trade of Leonard Williams to the Seattle Seahawks. It was a solid deal by general manager Joe Schoen, who acquired a second and fifth-round pick for the veteran defensive tackle who is on an expiring contract.

One of the reasons that a deal got done involving Williams was that the Giants were able to restructure his contract. They are going to be paying a portion of the money owed to him, which is why Seattle was willing to include higher draft compensation.

The deadline to rework the contracts of players was on Monday afternoon. That is part of the reason why people around the league don’t believe the Giants are going to be able to find a taker for veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson.

Also entering the final season of his contract, Jackson is someone many thought New York would have on the trade block. But, he is owed $6 million for the remainder of the season and based on his level of play thus far this year, teams aren’t going to be lining up to acquire that.

According to Jordan Ranaan of ESPN, Jackson isn’t expected to be moved at this time. He will likely play out the year with the Giants.

New York has some young players at the cornerback position they will likely be giving time to ahead of Jackson, who has been banged up as Ranaan noted and isn’t playing particularly well. Rookies Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins III have started at times this season along with second-year player Cordale Flott.

Those three could be the future for New York in the secondary for years to come. Banks has already shown shutdown potential on the perimeter while Flott has flashed when called upon as well.

If the Giants are going to make a deal centered around Jackson, they will have to take some salary back. Or, the best they will do is swap draft compensation, something we have seen in numerous deals this year already.
