Green Bay Packers 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Through Round 3

The Green Bay Packers had a very disappointing end to their season in 2020, but they could be poised for a major breakout season in 2021. The Packers saw their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, win the NFL Most Valuable Player award and they need to build around him so they can hoist a Lombardi Trophy as soon as next season. In order to do so, they need to have a good 2021 NFL Draft.

There’s no doubt that the Packers have a ton of talent on their team, but they need to emphasize some depth at a few spots in particular. Super Bowl windows close in the NFL just as quickly as they open and if the Packers hope to win another one with Rodgers, they need to act fast.

The Packers could use a big name offensive lineman to add to their roster, but adding receiver depth and secondary depth will be crucial to their success moving forward. There’s a ton of outstanding talent in the 2021 NFL Draft and the Packers will certainly be able to address some needs.

The Packers aren’t far from being in the Super Bowl and making the correct picks in the NFL Draft will bring them one step closer. Let’s take a look at what a three-round mock draft for the Packers could look like.

Round One, #29 Overall: Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan

It’s not a Packers Draft without passing on a wide receiver in the first round and I think that’s what they’ll do yet again this year. In all seriousness, at this point in the draft, the big name receivers should be off the board and adding a first-round offensive lineman could prove to be far more beneficial than adding a first-round wide receiver.

The NFL Draft is loaded with offensive talent and adding Jalen Mayfield would give them youth and talent at the offensive tackle position right away. Mayfield could be a plug and play caliber player and if this draft class wasn’t so deep in offensive line talent he would likely be considered a top three or four offensive tackle.

Green Bay needs to keep Aaron Rodgers protected to extend and build off his MVP season and adding Mayfield would be a great way to do so. If the Packers make this pick, they’ll be thanking themselves later when Mayfield winds up on the NFL All-Rookie Team a year from now.

Round Two, #62 Overall: Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson

I think the Packers can afford to wait until the second round to snag a wide receiver. Now that the Packers have invested in their offensive line with the addition of Mayfield, they can invest even more into their MVP quarterback with the addition of Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers.

It will be easy for Aaron Rodgers to trust a wide receiver with the same first initial and last name as him, which should automatically put him on the Packers’ radar. In all seriousness, Amari Rodgers is a very explosive wide receiver who thrived while at Clemson. In his four-year Clemson career, Rodgers mustered up 181 receptions, 2,144 receiving yards, 11.8 yards per reception, and 15 receiving touchdowns.

Amari Rodgers also played a bit of a hybrid role with Clemson as he ran the ball a few times in his career and scored an additional time on the ground. The Packers could get a weapon that could be a great number two or three guy on their depth chart from the get go with the addition of Amari Rodgers.

Round Three, #93 Overall: Trill Williams, CB, Syracuse

If everything goes how the Packers hope it does, they could land one of the most underrated cornerbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft in the third round. Trill Williams, a 6-foot-2 cornerback out of Syracuse, is one of the most underrated corners in the draft class and could be a great professional corner.

Williams is a very physical cornerback and reminds me of a prime Brandon Browner. In three years at Syracuse, Williams accumulated 92 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, five passes defended, four interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

He not only has one of the best names in the 2021 NFL Draft class, but he’s also one of the best value projects in the draft. The Packers could use some secondary depth and Williams should be the guy they go after.
