How Do You Sack the Quarterback?
This is perhaps the most controversial topic around the NFL right now. Sadly, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has been at the center of it. NFL referees have made Matthews the poster child for their revised “Unnecessary Roughness” rule against the quarterback.
The ten-year vet just can’t seem to catch a break. Supposedly tackling the quarterback exactly how the NFL intended for the quarterback to be tackled is still drawing flags. Matthews called the NFL “soft” in his post-game interview after losing to Washington.
This whole situation appears as though it could fester throughout the season. There is zero remorse from the NFL, only empowering the poor decisions made by referees thus far. For Green Bay, specifically, this specific rule has impacted two games already. How many more will it take to cause a revision of the revision?
