Green Bay Packers: Biggest Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

To bluntly start this section: Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is the most talented and one of the most transcendent football players of our generation. His presence on the field provides everlasting hope. Not every game is going to go Green Bay’s way, but as long as Rodgers is on the field, no score is out of reach.

Rodgers has also got some pretty talented pass catchers to throw to. Some view the wide receiver position to be lacking depth. To a point this is true. If, knocking on wood as I type, Davante Adams were to sustain an injury, then there would be an obvious impact on the offensive production. The difference for this season is that the receiver group as a whole is much better equipped to handle this loss than in year’s past. With the additions of Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis, coupled with the talent of the three rookies (Moore, St. Brown, and Valdez-Scantling), there is enough talent to sustain a loss.

But, let’s say, the guys behind Adams are unable to carry the load. The Packers have three very talented running backs that they could lean on. As the season drags on, running the football becomes more and more critical. When the season moves into the colder months or when you need to chew the clock, the running game is of utmost importance. Green Bay has a three-headed monster to carry that load.

Now on to the defense. Yes, the defense. For the first time in several seasons, the defense has given fans a reason to be excited. The Packers are deeper at corner then they have probably ever been, talent-wise. The run defense will be a top 10 unit this year. Kenny Clark eats blocks for breakfast, Mike Daniels is always penetrating the backfield, and Blake Martinez is slowly becoming recognized as one of the best clean-up guys in all of the NFL. If the secondary can live up to their potential, this defense as a whole has a chance to be very, very good.

My final strength for this team is veteran kicker Mason Crosby. Any good team needs an experienced and reliable kicker. They are called upon in the game’s most crucial moments. Crosby has been one of the best in Green Bay’s historic franchise and will look to continue to add to his legacy this year.
