Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has been in and out of the lineup this season due to a hamstring injury, and on Wednesday, head coach Matt LaFleur provided an update on his status.

Jones did not practice on Wednesday, but it doesn’t sound too serious.

“He’s just a little bit sore, which is to be expected,” LaFleur said of Jones (h/t Underdog NFL). “Hopefully we can ramp him up and get him more snaps out there.”

Jones made his return to the field in Week 7 after sitting out of the Packers’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5 (Green Bay had a bye in Week 6). He carried the ball eight times for 35 yards while catching three passes for 22 yards in his team’s loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

The 28-year-old has only played in three games this season after initially suffering the hamstring injury back in Week 1. He missed two contests before returning in Week 4, but he clearly was not healed.

On the season overall, Jones has rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown while averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He has also logged six catches for 104 yards and a score.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at UTEP, was selected by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a couple of solid seasons to begin his career before breaking out in 2019, when he racked up 1,084 yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns on the ground. Additionally, he hauled in 49 receptions for 474 yards and three scores.

Throughout his seven-year NFL tenure, Jones has hit the 1,000-mark three times, posting a career-high 1,121 rushing yards last season. He has made one Pro Bowl, which came back in 2020.

Green Bay has obviously missed Aaron Jones, as its rushing offense ranks 24th in the NFL this season.

The Packers are 2-4 and will take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
