Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander has been sidelined since last month due to a shoulder injury, and if his most recent comments are any indication, it does not look like he will be making his return against the New York Giants on Monday night.

Alexander has been practicing, but he hasn’t felt well enough to return to live game action.

“I’m the type of person that I always want to put my best foot forward,” Alexander said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “So I feel like if I can’t put my best foot forward then it’s just tough to even be out there.”

The star defensive back went on to say that the shoulder issue is particularly difficult to deal with when playing his position.

“I mean, especially when you’re talking about elite corners, it’s a tough one to battle,” he said.

Alexander has only played five games this season, as he also dealt with a back injury earlier in the year. During the time he has been on the field, he has logged 22 tackles and four passes defended.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisville, was selected by the Packers with the 18th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

By his third season, Alexander had established himself as one of the better corners in football, playing in 15 games and registering 51 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and 13 passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance in 2020.

Injuries limited Alexander to just four contests in 2021, but last year, the Charlotte native returned to the Pro Bowl after appearing in 16 games and totaling 56 tackles, five picks and 14 passes defended.

Green Bay has won three games in a row to improve to 6-6 and work its way back into the NFC playoff conversation in the process.

It would certainly help the Packers to have a healthy Jaire Alexander on the field for the stretch run.
